Privacy Policy

PDF Toys (operating at editfile.app) is a set of free, browser-based document tools. There are no user accounts — you don't sign up, and we don't ask for your name or email address to use any tool. This page explains, plainly, what happens to the file you upload and what other data we collect along the way.

The file you upload

When you use a tool, your file is sent to our server to produce your result. For most tools, that uploaded file is deleted the moment your request finishes. A small number of tools (OCR and JPG/PNG to PDF) process in the background, which means your uploaded file is briefly held on our server for the duration of that processing.

The output file — the result you download — is available from a real Download button for 60 minutes. After that, it's automatically and permanently deleted from our server — there's no way for us or anyone else to recover it afterward, so please download your file promptly and keep your own copy of anything you need.

Job history

We keep a short record of each operation that runs — the type of tool, the filename(s) involved, and when it happened — for up to 7 days, purely to help us investigate abuse or suspicious activity. This record is never public: it isn't linked to an account or email address, and it's only ever visible to the site operator, not to other visitors. After 7 days it's deleted permanently. Note this is separate from — and longer than — the 60-minute download window described above: after 60 minutes the file itself is gone, even though the record that it existed may still be visible to us for the rest of that 7-day window.

Your browser's local storage

Your light/dark theme choice, your list of recently-used tools, and whether you've dismissed the notice banner about this local storage are all stored only in your own browser (via localStorage), never sent to our server. You can clear this anytime through your browser's settings, and it's specific to the device and browser you're using.

Cookies

We don't use cookies for visitors using the tools on this site.

IP addresses

When you load a page on this site, we briefly record your IP address to power a simple internal "how many people are using the site right now" count, visible only to the site operator. Each record is automatically discarded after about an hour, it isn't linked to any file you upload or any job history, and it isn't shared with anyone else.

No analytics, no advertising

We don't run Google Analytics, ad trackers, or any third-party tracking or advertising scripts on this site.

Sharing your data

We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with third parties, except where we're legally required to.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you can ask us what data we hold that relates to you (for example, a specific job record or stored file) and ask us to delete it. Email us and we'll action this promptly.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
